Announcement on the Selection of Good Demonstration Class for Chinese Teaching as a Foreign Language

In order to identify prime achievements of international Chinese teaching, sum up and share diverse and localized teaching experiences in international promotion of Chinese language in a timely fashion and make full use of the initiative of in-service Chinese teachers, Hanban and the International Society of Chinese Language Teaching will launch an selection activity of Demonstration Class for Chinese Teaching as a Foreign Language among domestic and overseas in-service Chinese teachers. The event is organized by the Global Center for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL) of East China Normal University. Please read the following instructions on matters regarding the activity:

Time

May 20th – June 30th 2010.

Application

Applicants are invited to register at the official website of the selection event: http://shifanke.10th.shihan.org.cn, fill in the application form online and submit competition entries (videos and relevant instructions). Your application requests will come into force after being recognized by the organizing committee. Applicants will be notified by the organizing committee online.

Criteria of competition entries

The applicant must possess the copyright of his competition entries (video + instructional text);

The content of video must have close links with specific teaching cases, activities and teaching materials;

The video must apply to Chinese teaching activities of primary schools, secondary schools, universities, vocational training etc.

Submission of competition entries

The competition entry must be a demonstration video of Chinese teaching + relevant instruction. Specific requirements are as follows:

The video must be a complete teaching class, a period of 30-50 minutes, the minimum required resolution of the video being 640*480.

The function of the video is to display effective Chinese teaching methods, resources, teaching aids and teaching methodologies.

The competition entries are required to be submitted by mail. Applicants must write down their names and entry titles on the envelope.

Applicants will download and fill in the template for the instructional text related to video via the official website for the selection at:

http://shifanke.10th.shihan.org.cn; applicants are required to submit the instructions together with the video.

The applicant may use a home video camera to shoot the video in the case of a professional video camera being unavailable for teaching activities.

Audition results

The winning entries will be selected to participate in the Chinese demonstration class exhibition during the 10th International Chinese Teaching Conference.

Please understand that competition entries will not be returned to applicants.
